Here in Richmond VA they don't have a very good infrastructure for bike riders. Nor, do we have a metro system. Although, the bus lines have bike racks. But the bus line does not reach the outlining areas were jobs are. Yes, right now, bikes are <a href="http://www.metro.net/riding_metro/bikes/bikes_rail.htm" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">not allowed at all</a> on the trains during rush hour. Hopefully, this will change in the future. @patrick, I’m aware that this proposal had been put forth, but didn’t realize it hadn’t been passed.
