A California Mediterranean Salad

Mediterranean Salad

With a touch of Greece, Italy and Spain, this salad is proud to have its name as a derivative of the Mediterranean coast.

Nothing’s better than a bunch of leafy greens, tomatoes, and onions that makes the rainbow of colors recommended for a balanced diet.

The charm and the calm of the Mediterranean comes to life every time we add this panache to our salad plate to make our meal’s healthier.

And the darker the better! The dressing is just olive oil with a few drops of sherry vinegar.

Kalamata olives are from Greece, which is famous for their succulent dark olives. Mozzarella has its origin in Naples, Italy. Sherry vinegar, with a unique flavor made from Sherry, is from Cadiz, Spain.

And don’t forget to add a healthy dose of Olive oil, famous for its monounsaturated fatty acids, and its high content of antioxidants.

These ingredients and substances are the main ingredients into importing the Mediterranean Diet into your Southern Californian healthy eating lifestyle. It’s been eaten since ancient times all around the Mediterranean Sea.

And their lifespan is naturally higher than the western world’s for the most part. So let’s get to our salad because we’re all, I bet, pretty much hungry at this point, and crave this delicious salad for either lunch or dinner, or both:

With Ingredients from Ancient World here is the Mediterranean Salad:

  • 2 cups baby lettuce mix
  • Some baby spinach leaves
  • 1 cup sugar plum or grape tomatoes
  • ¼ cup red onion tiny sliced
  • 1/3 cup Kalamata olives
  • 10-12 Ciliegine balls (mozzarella fresca balls)
  • 1-2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ tsp Sherry vinegar

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a bowl and tossed them all. If you prefer, serve individually in each plate making layers with the ingredients and pouring olive oil and vinegar on top.

Serves: 2

You’ll find this dish appropriate for most all meals, especially as the airy and bright California summer months are approaching. Fantastic hearing about this delicious salad based in the ancient culinary culture of the mediterranean area.
But I would like to give you a small hint on one of the ingredients you use for dressing this salad. When you use sherry vinegar you are talking about the city of Cádiz. You should correct and talk of Jerez de la Frontera that´s the place where Sherry wine originally comes from and the famous intense and aromatic sherry vinegar is wellbased in this old city. As I´m from Jerez I´ll invite you to visit our place and the well famous Bodegas and try our gastronomy. I´m sure you´ll be delighted.
    Kind regards.

    @MARIO NARANJO,

I’m happy you looked at me recipe.

Thank you for your hint but when I said that sherry vinegar is from Cadiz it could be understood it is Cadiz province where Jerez de la Frontera is included.

    Regards,
