A Los Angeles Scavenger Hunt
About a month ago, I accepted an invitation to participate in a “local” photo scavenger hunt being hosted by Nicole over at NicoleB Photography.
I had so much fun taking all of these pictures—indeed, every time I reached for my camera, the scavenger hunt was in the back of my mind, as I’m trying to bring new and diverse ways to look at Los Angeles.
From the feedback I’ve received about Travelin’ Local, I’m certain that I’m succeeding in getting people interested in finding beauty, the unique, and the undiscovered that we take for granted living here.
When traveling, people always have a generalized and often times stereotypical view of Los Angeles.
We’re no different than any other big city, and have our share of urban and other problems. Be that as it may, we are the “Entertainment Capital” of the world, and California is one of the top destinations for travel, tourism, and relocation.
The future looks very bright for the City of Angels. So, without further adieu, the Los Angeles Scavenger Hunt is on:
1. Local currency
2. Local flag
3. Local food
4. Something rusty
5. Local wildlife
6. Local nature
7. Local stamp
8. Part of your neighborhood (it can be a very small part)
9. Traditional house
10. A local person
11. Local weather
12. Local transportation
13. Traditional local clothing
14. Night sky
15. Sunrise
16. Local product non-food
17. Something furry
18. Something feathery
19. A sign of the season
20. A part of you
21. Your main hobby
22. A local shop
23. A local restaurant
24. A street sign
25. A local mail box
As you can see, Los Angeles has a large, varied local landscape, full of characters, sites, sounds, and so much more.
I’d like to thank Nicole for hosting this contest, and if you’d like to see more of the other participants in the scavenger hunt, please visit 1st Scavenger Hunt on NicoleB Photography for the list of bloggers from all over the world.
If you did a scavenger hunt in your neighborhood, what would you find as you went Travelin’ Local?

What a fun post Lisa! I love all the different “looks” of Los Angeles! And, is that your bike? Is it one of the fold-up bikes? Very cool! My favorite shot – the sunrise!
[Reply]
@ Lance Yupp, that’s my bike. I love riding it around the city, and I really love being able to fold it up, toss it in the back seat of the car or carry it on a Metro bus, and take it where ever I want to go. I think many people underestimate LA. It really is a great place……………..:)

Awesome exhibition! At first I thought your bike was the fully-loaded one, which would be great if you’re “Travelin’ Distant” (like across the country).

@ Nicole Thank you for hosting the hunt. I discovered so much new stuff about LA via this hunt.
@ Frank I knew you’d like that one…………….:)
@ Diane C. Travelin’ Local is about finding interesting places in LA, but I hope everyone opens their eyes to what they have in their own backyards.
@ Lisa The yorkie was owned by a gentleman I met on a trail I was walking. His dog was so cute and bouncy, I asked the owner if I could photograph him and the dog owner said, “Yes.” This yorkie was made for pictures…………….:)

Your hood is very photogenic! I suppose if I had to pick a fave from this bunch it would be the night sky shot. Very striking! I’ve found that seems to be my favorite on most of the entries though. You definitely have a wide cross section of subjects to work with, that’s for sure! Well played. Very well played indeed.
and if you want to see what I see while “Travelin’ Local”, I did this Hunt too. C’mon by and check out life in the slow lane.

@ Scriber’s Web Thank you. I had so much fun shooting these pictures. I’m glad you liked them.
@ Chris Thank you. As soon as I saw the “wildlife” I knew it was what I wanted for LA.
@ Pamela The cow seems to be a favorite. I must admit, I was surprised to see it in someone’s yard.
@ Kristi S Thank you, I’m glad you liked them.
@ Mojo Yes, I love my “hood.” Actually the night shot was taken about 50 yards from my own “hood.” I look forward to visiting everyone’s hood.

Your “local person” is one of the best I’ve seen so far! Priceless!
I enjoyed your series!

Lisa,
This is my first visit to your site and it was a wonderful trip through LA. I loved the “local wildlife” and the “local person”…well, actually I loved the whole idea of a scavenger hunt with pictures. I noticed your picture of “a part of you” was you taking a picture of your shadow. As the one in my family who is always behind the camera, I often use shadow shots of myself in different places…It’s kind of fun to look back at my “shadow” self…and this doesn’t refer to JUNG in any way!

@ Like you, I’m almost never in a shot, and I haven’t ventured into the world of self-portraits yet. I loved the scavenger hunt, too, and would love to do something like it again. Thank you for visiting.
