About

Hello, my name is Lisa Newton, and I’m a fairly new resident to California, having moved here 2 years ago from the East Coast.  Many years ago, I owned a 35mm camera, but my kids came along and other priorities took precedence, so my camera days were put on the back burner.

Now, my children are grown up and on their own, and I’m rediscovering life through a Christmas gift of a Nikon D40.  I’m a learn-by-doing sort of person, which is how Travelin’ Local started.

After looking at other Los Angeles travel blogs and publications, it became obvious there was a void in the marketplace. They all too frequently give readers simplistic “reviews” and cut and dry recommendations for the sights, sounds, and places here, which lack both a personal touch and a real write up and review, with a photojournalism angle. Hence, Travelin’ Local was born.

Because California is the tourism and destination capital of the world, Travelin’ Local’s mission is to be innovative in how we present and celebrate the known and not-so-known places here.

Travelin’ Local’s mission is to explore those magical, interesting, and famous locations in and around Los Angeles and Southern California, and to recognize that there’s always specific customs, neighborhoods, people, architecture, nature, and other day to day life experiences, that are often taken for granted.

The beauty of Travelin’ Local is that whether we’re a billionaire, or just getting by, checking out what California and its nearby areas have to offer us, are that which inspires us and is for want of a better term—fun!

If you have access to a car, a few bucks, a hotel or motel room, a campsite, or just want to have a day, weekend, or week trip, California has it all—from beaches, to deserts, to mountains, to ethnic neighborhoods, and everything else that the imagination and our desires want.

Travelin’ Local is a website dedicated to be a place to talk, visit new and old places, and to learn about California’s eclectic neighborhoods and natural resources.

Every city has a story to tell, people that shaped that area, and stores, restaurants, iconic landmarks, and physical beauty to see.

Travelin’ Local stories and pictures are provided daily, weekly, and monthly. I hope you’re as excited as I am and keep coming back for more and more for places to go, people to see, and things to do.

Our articles, blogs, pictures, and stories are original and although we provide “eye candy” to be enjoyed, our goal is to provide a steady dose of nourishment for your soul through Travelin’ Local here and around town.
