Sit Back Saturday
For today’s Sit Back Saturday ongoing series, we try to bring you this past week’s stories that we found interesting.
Los Angeles based writers, bloggers, and websites–daily, and weekly–create content that’s irrelevant, timeless, unique, and contains information not usually included in your daily newspapers. For want of a better description, it’s a weekly dose of musings, stories, and just plain fun stuff.
So sit back, tune in, turn off the noise in the house, grab a cup of coffee, and catch-up on some stories that you have not been able or have had time to read. We’ll do the heavy lifting for our readers to have a pleasant morning:
- RIP – Bill Binder, Philippe’s Patriarch: A sad day in the long history of Philippe’s. This article also features a video of the History of the French Dip, one of Philippe’s specialties and one of my favorites.
- Valentine’s Day Deals: If you’re still looking for the perfect place to take your Sweetie on Valentine’s Day, here’s a great list of places, with extra value to match.
- Union Station Harvey House: If you’ve been to Union Station, you probably didn’t see the Harvey House. It’s only open to LA Conservancy tours. So, you can check it out at LA Places without the tour.
- The 8 Best Views of the Hollywood Sign: Watch as the “Hollywood” sign slowly changes. It’s an effort to “Save Cahuenga Peak,” which is being “threatened” by those evil “developers. “ The Hollywood sign itself is safe, because it’s on park property, but previously “public open space,” which was in private ownership, is the subject of such unique policy, is in “play.” The 138 acres behind, and to the left of the Hollywood Sign is in danger. You can show your support and donate here.
- Day 95 – February 6th 2010: I was fortunate to meet Sara, the woman behind “The Daily Ocean” who is on a mission to spend 20 minutes cleaning up the beach, 20 minutes per day for a year. She’s a wonderful person with a wonderful heart.
By no means, (This is our disclaimer!) is this meant to be a complete reading list of all worthwhile articles and blogs about Los Angeles on the web. But nevertheless, we hope you enjoy our version of Sit Back Saturday, and have a great weekend while you’re Travelin’ Local.
