The Palisades Park Rose Garden in Santa Monica
After spending a few hours working in my office, I always try to get outside for some fresh air, and find something interesting to write about for Travelin’ Local. Yesterday I needed by beach fix! So I left hoping to catch a few rays on the Santa Monica Beach.
But I never made it that far—I ended up at Ocean Ave.
Close to the end (or it could be the beginning depending on your point of view), of Palisades Park in Santa Monica, is the Rose Garden pictured below. It’s an oasis of blooming color, clean lines, fresh air, and bold beauty. I was able to relax, and loved every moment there.
Half circular in shape, the garden’s roses and flowers were in full bloom
Right in the center of the park is a statue by Masahito Sanar, dedicated to Arcadia Bandini de Baker:
For her love and devotion to Santa Monica and generous contributions of land to benefit the people and for the development of the City
In a small corner of the Rose Garden is a plaque, aptly named “Olympiad Rose Bush,” which says:
Commemorates the XXIII Olympiad and marathons run through Santa Monica, August 5th, 1984 and August 13th, 1984, including the first women’s marathon in Olympiad history
