@Jennifer - I finally tossed the mattress this past weekend, too - so there will be no more "mattress sledding" at our house - kind of takes the fun out of it all, doesn't it! That's a good point - how our perception might change based upon where we live, what we see everyday, and who we're around - it all affects us.

@Lisa - It was great being here Lisa! And fun to share a bit of my backyard and neighborhood! Thank you!!

Lance, I have to admit, I did think of you and your family trying to slide down the hill on a mattress. I can just see that.

Yes, each neighborhood is unique in it's own way. I often think about that - about how everybody has their own "reality" simply based on their surroundings and neighborhoods. How would I be different or have a different perception of life if I lived in a different neighborhood?

<abbr><em>Jennifer’s last blog post..<a href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/PrinciplesForPeace/~3/Pj694IOXFyA/" rel="nofollow">The Power of Replacement</a></abbr></em>

@Evelyn - Hi Evelyn! Thank you!! Well...you won't catch me on a snowboard coming down that hill. I'll stick to a sled - or a pair of cross country skis! Yes, we definitely see all four of the seasons. Right about now that tropical climate is sounding pretty sweet - do you wanna trade? Thanks for stopping by here Evelyn!

@Nathalie - It's always fun to see the deer in our backyard! It's not uncommon to see some sort of critter passing through. The deer seem to be sporadic - we'll see them regularly for a while, and then not a all. Living in the country, in any part of Canada, I'm sure is well-populated with wildlife! Thanks much for stopping by here Nathalie - I really appreciate it!

@Stacey Shipman - Hi Stacey, thanks! The backyard at our house was a big reason why we bought this place. It ends up being a great place to hang out! Cutting the grass, though, that's a job that can take a while! Nona's, like LeDuc's just sounds like a great place to end a warm summer day. Our kids can be coerced to go for a walk if it involved passing by LeDucs' - shoot, I can be coerced if involves that, as well! So, what are we saying - a great day ends with a little bit of ice cream - that doesn't sound so bad! Especially if it comes from that little mom and pop joint on the corner... Stacey, thanks for checking in here today!

@Jennifer - Hi Jennifer! Ha ha! So, you're the fair weather visitor! I understand!! We've had a pretty cold winter - and now that it's starting to warm up, I'm ready for spring! I have to ask you, though, Jennifer - can't you see me trying to come down that hill on a mattress?? Seeing it every day - that's a great point - I see this everyday - and yet - start to take it for granted - until I was looking for pictures for Lisa. And I was reminded of what it is I love about living here. Just like every neighborhood has something special about it, something that makes it unique and great. Jennifer, it's great seeing you here today!

@Daphne - Hi Daphne, and thank you very much! And disc golf is pretty new to me also - last summer! It's fun to play, cheap (free to play here), and a great activity to just get outside and do. And that "mountain" in our backyard - it's really a hill - and I think that picture makes it look bigger than it really is! Although walking up the thing - it begins to feel like a mountain! If you ever end up over this way, you're always welcome to stop by here and play on our "mountain"... Daphne, thanks for being here today!

Lisa, this is a great post. You certainly have a star blogger in Lance.

Lance, I loved seeing the photos. And I learnt something new - disc golf. Gosh, you make me feel like migrating to the US, just to have a 'mountain' in my backyard! I must really look into it sometime. Wonderful read!

Hi Lance. I'll take your backyard as well... The deer AND the snowy hill, but I only want it once or twice a year and then I'm ready for my southern, much warmer, weather. ;) It was great seeing your neighborhood and the sporting events and to know what you see every day.

Lisa, I love your idea of everyone posting their spring pics. Great idea!! Oh and I have always loved your blog and the beautiful pics you take and post.

@Natalia - Hi Natalia! I've visited upstate NY one time - and I do see much resemblance (except we lack the mountains!). The deer are regular visitors. Our cat was outside last night, thinking he could take them on! Thanks much Natalia - it's great to see you here today!!

@Marelisa - Hi Mare! One summer I had the bright idea I should cut the grass on that hill with our push mower (what was I thinking!?!?!?!) - that was painful! I'm glad you liked the 'tour'. Connecticut - I've been there once - and all I remember is a pouring rainstorm! (maybe I should visit again - in nicer weather!!). Thanks for stopping over here!

@Annette - Hi Annette! Yes, we probably are similar to small town Kansas. We're on the far far outskirts of Milwaukee - beyond us we have cornfields and dairy farms. And yes, I think it's the people, too. And that's really one of the great things about where we live - a great community of people. Thanks much Annette, for coming over here today.

@SuZen - Hi SuZen! I like the green too - in fact, I'm ready for it now that the snow has melted! Thanks for visiting today!

@Vered - Well...you drive four hours, and I'm sure you get hills that are more like mountains! Still, it is nice to just walk out the back door, grab a sled, and make a trail... We've had lots of fun memories in that spot! It's great seeing you here today Vered!

@Stacey/Create A Balance - I'm stepping away from the computer...(okay, maybe not right now!!). We're really pretty flat around here too, just blessed with a small hill in our backyard. It's fun to take our bikes down it during the summer too. A trip north...that sounds excellent!! It's great to see you here today Stacey!

Lance - awesome pictures...I want your back yard. That is awesome. We have deer and I just love all the nature. Thanks for sharing a bit from "your backyard"! Very cool. If you visited my neighborhood, your trip wouldn't be complete without an ice cream from Nona's! We all have our "final stop" :-)

I loved the photo of the deer Lance! I used to live in the country in Quebec, Canada, and we would see deer all the time. Now I still see them, but usually from a car traveling the country roads. There are tons of them at this time of the year, because the sun is out and the fields are melting - so lots of food!

I really enjoyed getting a glimpse of your local environment, it was fun and really welcoming. :)

Lisa - I love the idea of taking your travelin' local blog on the road. Let me know if you ever want a guest traveler from the Chicago area.

Lance - It's great to see images from your life away from the computer. Chicagoland is pretty flat, so I'm looking forward to heading north one of these days once the flowers start to bloom.

@Juliet - The deer are great. We had some more out again last night. In the fall, it was a family of turkeys that frequented our yard. Sometimes it's like a zoo outside our back door! Thanks for stopping over here!

@Laurie - Yep, we have a fire ring, and you can kind of see it in the deer picture. We don't get out and use it enough! Our yard ends up being just under 2 acres. When it comes to cutting the grass - that seems like a lot!! Ha! You wouldn't do well here Laurie - we definitely get cold (although yesterday was 75 degrees - a record!). Thanks for checking out our part of the globe Laurie!

@Barb - When we bought our house, that was one of the things that really sold us on this place - the backyard. It's become a great place to hang out, goof off, and just plain have fun! The sports seasons - it seems like we go right from one to the next. And...it's hard to believe our kids are as old as they are already - so, yes, it does go fast... Disc golf - essentially frisbees that you toss toward a basket (instead of hitting a ball toward a hole). And the best part - it's free! Last summer was the first time we tried it, with a new course that was built in our village's park. And it's really lots of fun! Thanks much for stopping in!

@Diane - Thank you Diane! Brookfield! That's just down the road from us- wow!! The hill in the backyard works great for sledding - lots of fun in the winter! Thanks for stopping by today!

@Jenny Mannion - I say mountains, because we sometimes call our little hill a mountain. You definitely have something more in the line of mountains where you are!! Upstate NY is beautiful - we've visited once, several years ago. Now I'm wanting to come back out that way!! It's great to see you here today Jenny - thank you!

@Laurie/Epxress Yourself - Lisa's idea is pretty awesome, I think, too!

@Jannie - Awww, Jannie, you're way too nice to me. You really are. And...I'm pretty happy right now!! Thank you Jannie - you always shine brightly wherever you go!!

@Julie - Sorry Julie!! As cold as it seems sometimes, the snow is lots of fun. As busy as our days sometimes seem - our kids provide lots of joy (and a little stress!). And as much as the wildlife can sometimes seem like a nuisance - they are fun to see wandering about our yard, or in the fields and woods next to us. It is all good! Thank you Julie, for stopping by today!

@Lisa - Ha! Yes, we have to travel to California to meet someone from the same "neck of the woods"! It's great to meet you Lisa!! Spring is on it's way...

The pictures were great - especially the green summer ones! Traveling local is a great refreshing idea for this time of year especially - and I enjoyed seeing Lance's little slice of heaven!

Hi Lance: You literally have a hill behind your house and deer in your backyard, wow. This reminds me a lot of when we lived in Stamford, Connecticut. I so need to go back for a visit. I've never been to any of the Central states, just to the East and the West Coast. It's nice to get a look at how beautiful Wisconsin is.

Lance, you're making me homesick! ;) ...the scenery, the activities... There's goodness everywhere we turn, each locale stamped with its own specialty, yet there's just something extra special about our own hometown roots. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful neighborhood!

Lisa, this is a wonderful idea and so is your new photo project. Thanks for hosting!
