Written and recorded in two days, Free Fallin’ is ranked #177 on the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers longest charting track, Free Fallin’ debuted on Billboard’s Album Rock Tracks, the week of August 26, 1989, and spent 33 weeks on the Billboard chart.

Recorded in 1989, the song mentions several locations not too far from Petty’s home in Encino.

In 1987, an arsonist set fire to Petty’s Encino’s home. Although the fire caused $1 million in damage, the firefighters were able to rescue the basement recording studio and the original tapes stored there, as well as Petty’s Gibson Dove’s acoustic guitar.

However, his signature gray top hat was destroyed. Petty later rebuilt the house with fireproof materials.

In 2006, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers celebrated their 30th Anniversary.

Now, it’s time to just sit back and enjoy Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers:
