Under the Sky
Under the sky I see
clouds floating past
me like angels. If
I am still and quiet,
I hear wind rushing
past me. When I
look up at the sky, it
is usually because
I need to get my mind
off of something.
Sometimes I imagine
the clouds are dogs,
cats, or other things.
If it’s nighttime I look
at the stars and make
up constellations. It’s
pitch black and the
white stars shine like
diamonds and my
favorite thing to do
under the sky is to
watch the stars
float right by me.

Awesome photo and poetry! It is amazing how when things start to feel overwhelming, just looking at the sky can have an immediate calming effect.

@ Diane C. Thank you. One thing I’ve noticed about the sky is that it’s so dark in the country. Because I’ve lived most of my life in a major city, I’ve gotten used to light black skies seen here. However, when I visit my sister, who lives in the countryside of Ohio, the sky turns very black. All the stars are visible. It’s a different sky, but one no less calming.
@ Robin I love the poems on your site, and the idea that they’re written by school children is even better. Thank you for publishing them.

Yes, night skies in Ohio are very black. Except when there’s snow on the ground and its white reflects up into all eternity. Gorgeous. Or when we get a full moon on a clear night. And the stars stud the heavens. Peaceful? Yes indeedy… It’s home, comfort, and beauty to me.
Think I’ll go visit the WITS site — sounds wonderful.

Please note that the “last blog post” by me was quite a while ago. Working with Feedburner to make that right. Sorry…

@ Barb I grew up in Ohio, so every time I visit, it brings back memories, although I do now enjoy the idea of not shoveling snow……………:)

Beautiful sky to go with that lilting poem.
I haven’t written a poem in ages.
