What is a Dog Park and where are they in Los Angeles?
Living in the city with a dog, isn’t easy. No matter if you live in a small apartment or large house, dogs need to run free every now and then.
Although there are plenty of places you can walk your dog, where do you go when you want to let your dog run free and off his or her leash, a place where you don’t have to worry about them running away, or being exposed to danger?
On one of my first visits to Los Angeles, I saw a dog park, which for me, was a totally new concept and something I never knew about or had seen. Having lived the previous 20 years in suburbia without a dog, I never remember seeing a dog park. But, living in the city, it’s great to have one close by.
What’s required for a Dog Park?

Plenty of Open Spaces for running as well as a place for their owners to sit and relax

A Dog Waste Station

A Refreshing Watering Station

A List of Rules

A separate area for large dogs and small dogs (this isn’t mandatory, but nice)

A shoe scraper just in case
Here’s a map of the Dog Parks scattered around the city:

Hi Lisa!
It’s been a while since I last stopped by. Been a while since I posted shots on VGAPhotos blog as well. Hope you’ve been well.
This post is great! NYC has similar Dog Parks, though I have not seen any equipped as well as the one you show in your photos. One that comes to mind is Madison Square park, in the Flatiron district in NYC. Another is in the park by Gracie Mansion called Carl Schurz Park
The dogs I see there are very happy! I think your post will definitely help dog owners reading your blog!

@FrugalNYC, I hope so. I know there have been some complaints by dog owners that there aren’t enough dog parks, but the ones we have are good, and from what I’ve seen, they are being well used.
Just as I was leaving this park, a gentleman arrived with about 10 dogs.

@Kim, It was fun watching the dogs get along with each other. However, after seeing the many sizes, I can totally understand why there are two sections, one for large dogs and one for smaller ones.

Good info! I’m actually surprised there aren’t more dog parks in LA. I live in a semi-rural area, and we have several dog parks. My dogs love it – they can romp around with all the other dogs off leash. As long as people only bring well mannered dogs, it’s a great thing!
Thanks for sharing!

@Julie @organic dog treats, That’s the biggest complaint of dog owners here, not enough dog parks. When I went there, it was amazing to see so many dogs all getting along.
